An experimental study of the dynamic modulus, damping and energy dissipation characteristics of argillaceous mudstones

    • To study the stability of the argillaceous sandstone slope subjected to blasting wave in coal mining areas, the dynamic tri-axial test is carried out using the MTS 815 equipment, in which a sinusoidal wave with a 1 Hz frequency is applied. The stress-strain data of hysteresis loops are precisely analyzed, and dynamic and damping parameters are calculated. The experiment reveals the evolution laws of volumetric energy, elastic energy and dissipated energy. The relationship between the volumetric dissipated energy and confining pressure or dynamic stress is a power function. The existing mutation is analyzed and discussed, which is attributed to energy storage of rocks, and “accumulation effect” and “triggered effect” of stress waves induced by the tri-axial test. Furthermore, it is consistent with the mechanism of seismic wave or blasting stress wave which can trigger slope collapse. The experiment is aimed to obtain direction and basic academic material for stability analysis of argillaceous sandstone slope subjected to blasting wave.
