Research on physical and mechanical properties of strata on both sides of Xi’an ground fractures

The drilling and the sampling work have been done on the typical section of Xi’an ground fractures. According to the geotechnique test result, the analysis has been carried out on contrasting physical and mechanical properties of strata on both sides of Xi’an ground fractures. It is found that there is remarkable difference between the physical and mechanical properties on both sides of Xi’an ground fractures, and the scope of 6.0m under the surface and in the plane width of 10.0m is affected remarkably. It is shown that moisture content and the compressibility coefficient of stratum on the south side of fracture are larger than that of on the north side, but the shearing strength and bearing capacity are obviously lower.
