Comparation and analyses of direct shear test and pull-out test of the interface between soils and geosynthetics

Direct shear test and pull-out test are two means to quantify the interaction characteristics of the interface between soils and geosynthetics, but the mechanism of both is so much different.In this paper,the comparison o of the two experimental methods is carried out according to the results from direct shear test and pull-out test.It’s discussed that the differences and reasons of the interface shear strength obtained from direct shear test and pull-out test.The results of test show that: for woven geotextiles,the shear strength from direct shear test and pull-out test is more or less the same,but the peak displacement of which is so much different;as for the glass fiber grid,the shear strength of direct shear test is greater than that of pull-out test.
